Bailuyuan Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The naming section is located near Maoxi Village on the south bank of the Bahe River in Lantian County, Shaanxi. Named by Liu Dongsheng, Ding Menglin and Gao Fuqing in 1960.
Lithology and Thickness
Predominantly a sequence of white massive sandstone with purplish red mudstone. With a maximum of up to 508 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The formation disconformably overlies the Middle Eocene Honghe Fm.
Upper contact
Unconformably underlies the Miocene Lengshuigou Fm (or the Koujiacun Fm, which may be below the Lengshuigou Fm – see that entry).
Regional extent
It has a large outcrop area. On the right bank of the Bahe River it is mainly distributed in the Zhijiagou gully and some large gullies east of the Zhijiagou gully such as Taiqizhai, Mapo, Shahegou, Xiaozhai, Chenjiazhai, Shilihe and Huazuigou, and on the left bank it is only exposed near Maodong Village and Maoxi Village.

Fossils
Fossils mainly include the plants Palibrinia korswinii, P. pinnatifida and P. latifolia, as well as sporopollen; the mammals include Lantianius xiehuensis, Sianodon bahoensis and Simplaletes xianensis.
